The Vampire Diaries: The Worst Thing To Happen To Every Major Couple

0

Part of what makes CW's Legacies so fascinating is that it features legacy characters from both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. It's also about to add a visit from more members of the extended original vampire family before the current season closes.

The Vampire Diaries is where the captivating franchise of supernatural adventure and romance began. The series was packed full of mystery and suspense, and no relationship was safe from the dramatic twists and turns that spanned the eight season run of the show.

The Heretics were one of the vilest groups that the main cadre of characters faced in the series, but that didn't stop the heretical match of Nora and Mary Louise from being a total delight to watch. They were quite the cute pairing despite their evil ways.

Nora getting marked by huntress Rayna became the critical moment for the Heretic lovers by putting a decisively finite cap on Nora's life. Neither could picture carrying on without the other so they used their magic one last time to exit the realm of the living together.

Tyler's relationship with Liv was his most mature and promising one. The two met at Whitmore College and couldn't resist the pull they felt between them. Liv's family was the source of stressors on them, but it seemed that they had the potential to work through that.

Which made it both fitting and heartbreaking that her brother the powerful villain Kai caused the end of her life and thus her relationship with Tyler. Kai's bloody sabotage of Jo's wedding included revenge on his whole family, leaving Liv mortally wounded. Liv made the ultimate sacrifice by making Tyler kill her to trigger his werewolf side, thus saving his life.

It's a momentous occasion to catch the eye of a Mikaelson, especially to be a mere mortal and draw the attention of Rebekah as Matt Donovan did. With Matt, Rebekah found the chance to share affections with one of the good ones in life, and Matt got to have an experience that was exciting yet still wholesome.

It was a sad development to see their romance go by the wayside. Their parting was amicable but no less disappointing. It saw Rebekah put her own interests aside yet again to follow her brothers to New Orleans.

There's perhaps no greater fun than watching the spicy exchanges between Klaus and Caroline. As much as Caroline initially tried to deny it, they were both like a moth drawn to the other's flame. The sincerity of his romantic feelings for Caroline was one of Klaus' best traits.

In The Vampire Diaries, Klaus intended to become Caroline's final love. That wouldn't come to pass because Klaus left Mystic Falls for New Orleans, which led to a course of events that would prevent the two from cementing their relationship as a lasting one, much to the chagrin of Team Klaroline fans.

Jeremy had his most healthy relationship with Bonnie. They were both drawn to the goodness in each other, and it was sweet to see Jeremy paired up with one of his sister Elena's best friends. Once his ex-girlfriend issues were fully put in the past it seemed that Bonnie and Jeremy would be inseparable.

Then Bonnie got trapped in a prison world. They continued to hold onto their love for each other while separated, but they both grew personally in different ways during that time. When she breaks out of the prison world, they move on with their lives without each other.

Jo was not Alaric's first love interest on the show, but their romance initially appeared to be the most promising one for each other as theirs was a mature committed relationship. They'd both had their fair share of hardships, and they shared a loving partnership. Their wedding promised a long and happy life raising their children together.

However, the wedding ended in massacre because Kai broke out of the prison world and killed Jo first before striking out at the wedding guests. In one of the saddest deaths in TVD, Jo died in Alaric's arms leaving him devastated. Alaric set out to find a way to resurrect her but never succeeded.

Bonnie and Enzo at first seemed like an unlikely pairing, but they proved to be a rather enchanting match. Their love was so strong that Bonnie was able to save him in the fallout of Enzo being under the powerful siren Sybil's control.

For having endured the challenges they did, it came as a shock that Stefan, in a hero turned villain moment, killed Enzo in Bonnie's presence. She then injected Stefan with some of Elena's blood, making him human, and later finds that she's able to communicate with Enzo using psychic powers.

These two shared a long friendship before finally becoming a couple. They would go on to face numerous obstacles including Stefan being forced to work for Cade and becoming a ripper again. Their love survived, and they get married.

Tragically their marriage didn't get a happy ending because Katherine's long game of getting revenge comes to a head, and Stefan sacrifices himself as a part of the plan to defeat Katherine and save Mystic Falls from the hellfire.

The series gave the projection from the start that it was going to be all about the big love story of Elena and Stefan. They fall for each other early on and remain an endearing item for the first few seasons. It's expected that Stelana would triumph over Delena.

Elena becomes a vampire, which changes the trajectory of their relationship and ultimately brings about the end of it. She is drawn more to Damon and remains in love with Damon even after the sire bond is broken.

Thus the great love in Elena's life is Damon. He's there for her as she adjusts to being a vampire, and their love overcomes numerous challenges including the switching off and on of humanity switches. The two even choose to become human together when the chance is presented.

Kai's curse placed Elena into an unbreakable coma for the duration of Bonnie's life. This was the most tragic event in her and Damon's relationship, leading to Damon having to face a great deal of turmoil for the remainder of the series. Thankfully they were reunited in the series finale, and they got their human happily ever after.
