Queer Eye: Karamo Brown Will Host His Own Daytime Talk Show
In fall 2022, Queer Eye's culture consultant Karamo Brown is getting his very own daytime talk show. While most fans were introduced to Karamo on Netflix's reboot of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, he actually wasn't a stranger to the world of television. He starred on MTV's The Real World back in 2004, making him the first openly gay Black man on reality TV. From there, Karamo went on to work in social work and psychotherapy, which led him to be the culture expert on Queer Eye. Despite that work, Karamo still had spots on various TV shows throughout the years. From hosting Access Hollywood Live to competing on Dancing With The Stars, Karamo's always been open about his love of television.
In 2020, Karamo was on and began hosting episodes of the reality TV staple Maury, a fitting show considering back in 2007 he found he was the father of a child of his own back when he was 15, though his previous girlfriend didn't tell him. By the time he found out, 10 years had passed. Karamo immediately took full custody and formed a relationship with his children, viewing his son's step-brother as his child as well. The mother of his children has been incredibly supportive, and the pair has been able to co-parent seamlessly since the discovery. But given this experience, he was more than qualified to host the show.
In a press release reported by E! News, it was recently announced that the reality TV lover will be getting a daytime talk show of his own this upcoming fall, with Queer Eye's Karamo commenting, "Growing up, hosting a daytime talk show seemed unrealistic and unattainable, but it was my dream. I used to run home from school as a kid to watch this genre's icons Sally, Donahue, and Maury." Executive Vice President of NBCUniversal Tracie Wilson made the announcement this week, detailing that, much like on Queer Eye, Karamo's show will deal with tougher topics like, "infidelity, race, parenting and complex family dynamics."
Karamo's been dipping his toes into the hosting role for a while now. And considering daytime talk shows have always dealt with heavier topics, he seems to be the perfect pop culture personality to get one of his own. Tracie added, "Karamo is a true fan of the genre who will bring that passion, along with his unique skill set and life experiences, to guide his guests through life's dramatic crossroads and build a lasting connection with the daytime audience." The show, which will be named after Karamo himself, is set to have hour-long episodes.
Though the announcement may come as a shock to some, true fans of Queer Eye won't be surprised. Since the beginning, Karamo's been able to see each individual for who they are and give them advice that acknowledges and helps their unique situation. The show's quick dynamic has given him the opportunity to show how effective and essential his advice can be in a limited amount of time. It's never been about changing their whole personality; it's just about meeting people where they're at, and Karamo excels at that.
