Survivor: Lydia Meredith's Twitter Name Causes Hilarious Mix-Up For Naseer
Survivor 42's Lydia Meredith seems to have confused some people with her name on Twitter, including 41's Naseer Muttalif. Lydia, a 22-year-old waitress from Los Angeles, was one of 18 castaways in the newest season of Survivor and a member of the Vati tribe. She immediately allied herself with Hai Giang and the two formed a tight pair, successfully fighting against their whole tribe for Lydia to stay in their first tribal council.
Lydia quickly won fans over with her body-positive storyline and Gen Z style humor. To many it seemed that she was so unapologetically herself, though she was given a quieter edit in the first half of the season. And Lydia's fun Twitter presence has definitely influenced her positive fan reception, earning her over 13,000 followers since the season 42 cast announcement in February. Her name on the social media platform, "Lydia Chlamydia", has caused quite the stir itself, with many of her fans dubbing themselves "Chlamydianators".
As Survivor fans and alumni shared their thoughts about the new episode on Twitter, a big standout was a tweet from the wife of season 41 alum Naseer, Diana Muttalif. Diana shared a conversation the two had while watching, wherein Naseer expressed his enjoyment of Lydia on the show, "I like Lydia Chlamydia. I hope she doesn't go home." Diana comes to find out that Lydia's name online may have confused Naseer, as it did many other fans who may not be as privy to Gen Z humor. See Diana's full tweet here:
Naseer, a fan favorite of his own season, is originally from Sri Lanka. He shared that he learned English from watching Survivor, so it's understandable if words like chlamydia are not so familiar to him. His optimistic attitude and love for those around him are what made him so popular on his season in the first place. Unfortunately for Naseer (and many other "chlamydianators"), Lydia was blindsided as the final pre-merge boot in episode 6.
When asked about Naseer and Lydia meeting, Diana said "There is nothing I would love more than to see them interact in real life. Naseer understands nothing from Gen Z." It is always fun to see past castaways cheering on the current players, so interactions like this bring a lot of joy. And this is not the end for Lydia Chlamydia, as we are sure to continue to see her around the Twitter-sphere, cheering her fellow castmates on for the rest of Survivor season 42.
Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8pm EST on CBS.
