Karen Gillan Is Already Nostalgic For Guardians of the Galaxy

0

Karen Gillan is already feeling nostalgic about Guardians of the Galaxy. Gillan's character Nebula joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her appearance in the first Guardians film. Gillan has since appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, Nebula has played a pivotal role in the Guardians franchise especially, thanks to her complex relationship with Zoe Saldaña's Gamora.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, due to release next year, will be the final film in the Guardians franchise. James Gunn returns to write and direct the movie after Marvel reinstated him in October 2018. Guardians 3 is filming now, with Gillan recently offering a behind-the-scenes look at Nebula's makeup in the movie. Nebula's story in the film largely remains a mystery, but there's hope it will give audiences some closure on her dynamic with Gamora.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about her new movie Dual, Gillan discussed how it feels being on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set knowing it's the last film in the franchise. Gillan admitted it's "bittersweet." Check out her full comment below:

It's becoming quite nostalgic, I think. Just because we know that we're in some way closing out a chapter, and a massive era of all of our lives, too. Yeah, it's totally bittersweet, and everybody's just trying to kind of take in every moment. We're already nostalgic.

It makes sense Gillan and her Guardians of the Galaxy co-stars have a lot of feelings about the franchise coming to an end. As the first Guardians movie came out nearly a decade ago, they've played their characters for a long time at this point. All of the actors, including Gillan, have also seen their careers explode in a major way over the last eight years, which may increase nostalgia for the first film in the franchise especially.

Though those who love the Guardians movies have expressed disappointment at the long wait between the second and third films in the franchise, it may feel like a blessing in disguise for the cast. If Marvel's original plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had stuck, it likely would have released a couple of years ago. The longer-than-expected wait between films has allowed both the cast and audiences more time to come to terms with the franchise ending. Plus, with the third movie not releasing until May of 2023, it will be over a year until Gillan and her co-stars really have to say goodbye. Based on what the cast and Gunn have said about the final film's story so far, it sounds like it will be a satisfying sendoff for all of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters, including Nebula.
