Millions of families saw their energy bills double to an average of £1,971 a year when the price cap went up.

And the price of food, fuel, transport and more is on the up as the soaring rate of inflation means you’ll have to pay more to get by.

His tips are part of MoneySavingExpert’s cost of living crisis guide, and it includes readers’ advice on beating the pinch too.

One fan, called Fran, shared her tips on how to do her washing for less.

She said: “Shorten your wash cycles, use the rapid wash on your machine and not the longer ones.”

She also said she washes her clothes the day before the sun is shining, so she can hang her clothes out to dry instead of using the tumbledryer.

Big families could be spending up to £104.52 using the tumbledryer, according to Uswitch – so her tip could save you a big wedge in the long run.

Limit kettle use

We all love a cuppa but it could be driving up your bills.

Uswitch estimates you could be wasting £87 a year filling it up and boiling it with more water than you actually need.

To save money, one reader revealed her tips on using the kettle less.

“Boil water for hot drinks once a day and save the rest in a flask to save electricity,” she said.

Use your microwave

If you’ve got a microwave, then you might want to start using it over your oven.

There is less wasted energy from using it – and wasted energy only drives up your bills.

MoneySavingExpert estimated microwaving a jacket potato is less than 25% cheaper than cooking it in an oven.

Martin also explained how new parents can get £500 in free cash.
