Fantastic Beasts: One Quote That Sums Each Main Character In The Secrets Of Dumbledore

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

There are a lot of characters in focus in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which sees Albus task Newt Scamander and his team with stopping Grindelwald’s plans of becoming the Supreme Head of the Wizarding World. Despite the action-packed premise, every character had a defining quote that tied into who they are.

It’s interesting to look deeper into the characters’ words, because just a single line goes a long way in showing how their thought processes are. Whether it’s the evil Grindelwald or the empathetic Newt, each person utters a quote that justifies their inclusion in the Global Wizarding War.

There’s no doubt that Jacob is the bravest Muggle in the Harry Potter series, and this quality was recognized by everyone in Fantastic Beasts 3. Although the primary arc for him in the movie was to bravely aid his group, Jacob’s personality was best summed up when he refused to leave Queenie before the election ceremony.

Jacob claimed he didn’t agree with Dumbledore’s assertion that he had the biggest heart, because he had his own motive of winning Queenie back. It proved that he didn’t care if he lost his life against dangerous dark wizards if it meant giving up his love for Queenie.

Lally had the habit of talking metaphorically without really explaining what she meant, as she preferred to let others interpret her words. When Jacob told her he was a simple man to read, Lally answered that books are complicated and this quote contextualized it.

Lally saw things deeper than most people did, being one of the few who didn’t know Jacob personally but also didn’t undermine him as a Muggle. Lally’s open-mindedness was in contrast to the others’ doubts, and her confidence ultimately served the protagonists well.

These words are the latest in a long list of evil Grindelwald quotes in Fantastic Beasts movies, although this might just sum him up best. He said this to Dumbledore when the latter refused to join his cause, signifying that Grindelwald saw everything as manipulation and showed his true persona once he was rejected.

Grindelwald was an extremist who wanted wizards on his side but had no qualms about dumping those who opposed him. It didn’t matter if it was someone like Dumbledore - whom he had once loved - because Grindelwald was hellbent on eradicating Muggles altogether.

Queenie has had a sedate role from the beginning of the second movie to the end of the third. But fans saw her real personality shine through at her wedding, where Queenie was once again happy and hilariously blunt. Here, she called out Newt for being nervous when he expected Tina to show up.

True to form, Queenie didn’t pry too much on the matter but said enough to make clear that she knew that Newt was anxious to meet Tina even though he was pretending not to be. Queenie had the knack for making people address what was really on their minds without overstepping her bounds.

Yusuf is a man of few words and doesn’t prefer to engage in conversations other than what’s important. Newt briefed everyone in the team about what they be required to do on the train, which was when Yusuf stopped the former short because he had all the information he needed.

Yusuf appeared to have betrayed the group to Grindelwald, only to reveal he was still their ally. This showed that he didn’t buy into Grindelwald’s cause because Yusuf was content with the way the Wizarding World operated. Although he felt the loss of his sister, Leta, he accepted that she was gone for good.

Aberforth has always been perceived by Harry Potter fans as a man who carried a lot of guilt. It started with the death of his sister, and Fantastic Beasts 3 showed he was guilty of leaving Credence, with the reveal that he was Credence’s father all along.

He asked Credence to forgive him in writing on the two-way mirror, as his shame of not being there for his son weighed heavily on Aberforth. He ultimately took Credence with him back home, again as a way of making up for his mistakes.

There are plenty of Harry Potter fans convinced that Dumbledore is a villain for the way he frequently manipulates people around him. This quote shows how Dumbledore prefers to keep his group in the dark because he doesn’t want to put all his eggs in one basket.

Dumbledore asked Newt and the rest of the team to trust his plan of using multiple briefcases housing the surviving Qilin, but without anyone knowing which the real one was. The quote portrays Dumbledore’s extreme way of heroism, as it can lead to casualties.

Theseus is someone who’s doubtful of a plan he hasn’t come up with because he has a rather high opinion of himself. When he learned who all comprised the team, he sarcastically remarked that their chances of success were high.

It also displayed his willingness to trust people, seeing as Theseus didn’t challenge the plan and went along with it. Theseus is a pessimist by nature, but one who respects his allies even if he considers himself to be more talented than them.

Bunty’s primary arc has been her unrequited feelings for Newt, which he’s remained completely in the dark about. Before getting off the train, Bunty had this quote to say to her boss, which was her way of assuring Newt that she didn’t need to be looked after by him.

Although Newt didn’t realize she had feelings for him, he was extra protective of Bunty. Her words can be interpreted as her alluding to Newt not realizing her love for him. It also depicts Bunty’s humble mindset, as she didn’t keep an unnecessarily high opinion of herself like some of the others did.

There were many wild theories about who Aurelius Dumbledore really was, with Fantastic Beasts 3 answering this question. As it turned out, he was Aberforth’s son, and somehow got into contact with his father during the time skip.

Credence only ever wanted to be loved and accepted by his family, and he wrote about wanting to come home on the two-way mirror to Aberforth. Credence was willing to be vulnerable because he was nearing the end of his life, and his plea to Aberforth was so that he could pass away in peace.

Newt happened upon this realization after he reclaimed the surviving Qilin, by which point he had learned how important the creature was. However, Bunty figured out he was also talking about Tina, whom Newt hadn’t seen in years but secretly wanted to.

Newt started out in the series not wanting to be around people, but his experiences with Tina, Jacob, and Theseus have made him realize that he does want companionship. He had to accept his feelings for Tina due to how much he missed her when they were apart, with the quote reflecting the change in Newt’s mindset.
