Wonder Twins HBO Max DC Movie Casts Riverdale & 1883 Stars

0

Riverdale’s KJ Apa and 1883’s Isabel May are joining the DC Universe as they are set as the leads for HBO Max’s Wonder Twins. While the DCEU is expanding on the big screen, Warner Bros. is also taking the opportunity of utilizing HBO Max for their DC content. Since the launch of the HBO-branded streaming service, the studio has slowly started to add projects that either tie into the cinematic universe or stand on their own.

One of the upcoming DC films that are in the works at HBO Max is Wonder Twins, taking the iconic Super-Friends heroes into the world of film. The DC siblings-starring movie was first announced back in February as Black Adam writer Adam Sztykiel is set to direct the HBO Max picture. He is also penning the script for the film, which will mark Sztykiel's directorial debut. While the Wonder Twins have been heavily featured in animation, this will be the first time they star in their own solo movie.

After only two months since being revealed to be in the works, Warner Bros. has found their Wonder Twins. Deadline reports that Riverdale star KJ Apa and 1883's Isabel May are set to play Zan and Jayna respectively. Zan has the ability to turn into water while Jayna can turn into any animal she wants, by the siblings fist-bumping and saying, "Wonder Twin Powers, Activate!" How the film will tackle their powers remains to be seen, but it seems to be part of this iteration.

While this will be Wonder Twins' first time enjoying the spotlight in a DC movie, it's not actually their live-action debut. During Smallville season 9, in the episode "Idol," the Superman prequel series brought the siblings from panel to screen for the first time. 7th Heaven's David Gallagher portrayed Zan while Warehouse 13's Allison Scagliotti came on as Jayna. Even though they only appeared in that one episode, the Wonder Twins were brought back for the Smallville season 11 tie-in comic. The Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths introduced their famous pet monkey, Gleek, who had an off-screen cameo where his voice was only heard.

Wonder Twins is joining a big slew of teenage/young adult DC movies that Warner Bros. has in the works. While Blue Beetle, Zatanna, and Static Shock are being worked on for theatrical releases, HBO Max has Leslie Grace's Batgirl film coming up. May will next be seen in The Moon & Back and Apa continues to star as Archie Andrews on The CW's Riverdale, which was picked up for a seventh season last month. Now that the leads have been found, more Wonder Twins casting news are bound to be coming in the next few months as production is set to happen later this year.
