The Facts Of Life Star Says A Reboot Is Being Discussed
The Facts of Life star Lisa Whelchel says a reboot is being discussed. Starring Charlotte Rae, Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn, Nancy McKeon, and Whelchel, The Facts of Life was a spinoff of the series Diff’rent Strokes. Making its debut in 1979, The Facts of Life aired during a golden age of television which sported iconic sitcoms like Cheers, Happy Days, Family Ties, and The Golden Girls.
Created by Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon, The Facts of Life follows housemother Edna Garrett (Rae) as she nurtures, educates, and reasons with students at an all-female boarding school. The groundbreaking sitcom centers on the adolescent trials and tribulations of spoiled rich girl Blair (Whelchel), naive Tootie (Fields), confident Natalie (Cohn), and tomboy Jo (McKeon). The Facts of Life ran for nine successful seasons before signing off in 1988. In 2001, the cast of the iconic sitcom, sans McKeon, reunited for The Facts of Life reunion movie, which aired on ABC.
Now more life lessons could be in store for the characters from The Facts of Life. Per Fox News Digital, Whelchel reveals that a Facts of Life reboot is being discussed. Speaking about reprising her role as Blair, Whelchel says she is interested in a reboot that would touch on Blair dealing with life issues that come with middle age. Whelchel said conversations for a reimaging of The Fact of Life have happened, and they've been fun to have. However, nothing is set. Read Whelchel’s full comment below:
We’ve been talking about a reimagining of Facts of Life and bringing it back again. Nothing is set yet, but it’s been really fun to talk about it. What I have brought to the table for those conversations is I would love to see a little bit more acceptance of what reality looks like for a midlife woman. As I mentioned, I’m about 15 pounds heavier than I was on Facts of Life.… If we were to do a re-imagining of the show, I would really like my character to address the realities that we face when we get to a certain age.
Over the past few years, there has been a resurgence of interest in The Facts of Life. In 2019, The Facts of Life cast reunited for a Lifetime Christmas movie special. Although the leading ladies from the sitcom played a different group of characters in the film, the reunion rekindled their onscreen chemistry. Live in Front of a Studio Audience recently tackled a Facts of Life recreation, which starred Jennifer Aniston as Blair, Kathryn Hahn, Gabrielle Union, and Allison Tolman.
Of course, it seems Whelchel hasn’t closed the book on playing Blair once more. If anything, the actress has been the most vocal about bringing The Facts of Life back to life on the small screen. A Facts of Life reboot wouldn’t feature Rae as Mrs. Garrett, but it could reunite Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Jo in the next phase of their lives. Although the series ended with a satisfying sign-off, The Facts of Life might reach a new generation if Whelchel makes headway with her ideas for a reboot of the series.
