Man arrested for trying to kill police in Horse Guards Parade
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two Ministry of Defence police officers were confronted with a knife in Westminster.
Police Tasered a man before restraining him in Horse Guards Parade just before 9am on Bank Holiday Monday.
Whitehall, the centre of the UK government, has been closed between Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square.
No one was injured and it is not being treated as terror-related.
A man, 29, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at a central London police station.
Whitehall is lined with numerous departments and ministries, including the Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Office.
Horse Guards Parade is a large parade ground used for royal parades and ceremonies.
The Metropolitan Police say they will work alongside the MoD Police in an investigation.
Officers have urged anyone with information to come forward.
