Taika Waititi Jokes Thor: Love & Thunder Trailer Is The Whole Movie
Now that Marvel Studios released the first Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, director Taika Waititi jokes that it is the entire movie. Waititi joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase 3 as he took control of the Thor franchise for the third installment. Thor: Ragnarok was a huge critical and commercial success, making it unsurprising when Marvel Studios announced Waititi's return for Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie brings Chris Hemsworth back to star in his fourth solo film, which picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame and shows him working with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It also features the return of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the transformation of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster into Mighty Thor.
The wait for Thor: Love and Thunder has been longer than expected due to COVID-19 reshuffling Marvel's Phase 4 slate. However, even the delays did not totally account for the studio's decision to hold off on a teaser trailer for so long. After months of fans making the movie trend on Twitter as they asked for a first look and speculation about when it would arrive, Marvel Studios finally released the official Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer on April 18, 2022. Its surprise arrival delighted MCU fans as they got a long-awaited glimpse at the adventurous, colorful, humorous, and exciting movie Taika Waititi has made.
Once Marvel Studios debuted the trailer, Taika Waititi joined in on the excitement with his own funny take on the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer release. He shared the finished trailer on social media, along with the film's teaser poster. When sharing the early marketing materials, Taika Waititi joked that the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer is really the full length finished movie. He continued to have fun with the marketing campaign by saying the film's release date is July 8, 1986, which gets the right month and date but gives the MCU movie the release year of Highlander, a big inspiration for Waititi.

Taika Waititi's signature humor is one of the main reasons why so many became bigger fans of Chris Hemsworth's Thor after Thor: Ragnarok. The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder once again features plenty of comedy, although it also strikes a slightly more heartfelt tone like that of Waititi's prior work, such as Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Thankfully, there will be much more of this story than the 89 seconds presented in the teaser trailer. No official runtime for Thor: Love and Thunder has been announced yet, but audiences can likely expect to see at least two hours of Thor and Mighty Thor's upcoming adventure
The good news for those excited for Thor: Love and Thunder is that the teaser trailer has likely only scratched the surface of what the movie actually contains. There is no sight of the main villain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), so most of the main story is still being concealed. Meanwhile, the trailer leans heavily on the Guardians of the Galaxy, even though they don't appear to stick around for the main adventure. The single shots of Valkyrie and Mighty Thor also indicate how their individual stories have barely been seen in Thor: Love and Thunder's trailer.
