Pedro Pascal Prefers To Wear Helmet On The Mandalorian

0

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal says he prefers his helmet on as the titular character, despite the many times Din Djarin has broken the creed to never remove the headpiece. While the third season of the popular Star Wars series has yet to premiere on Disney+, Pascal has been busy promoting his film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which hits theaters Friday. The actor has also been getting buzz for his lead role in The Last of Us, an HBO series based on the acclaimed video game.

Amid the excitement surrounding both projects, Pascal continues to field questions about his most iconic roles, including the Mandalorian (aka Din Djarin). In the show, Djarin refuses to remove his helmet in keeping with the strict rules of his clan, which prohibit another living being from seeing a Mandalorian's face. He's broken this rule many times throughout the series, however, even letting baby Grogu touch his face in the finale of season 2. In The Book of Boba Fett, Djarin confesses to other clan members that he has broken the creed, prompting the Armorer to tell him that he is no longer Mandalorian. Djarin then goes off on his own way, helping Boba Fett in the meantime. The Mandalorian's story will continue in season 3, expected to premiere some time this year.

When it comes to the helmet-on/helmet-off debate, Pascal says he prefers the former. He recently sat down with Esquire to react to various memes and headlines about himself — among them, a meme referencing his Game of Thrones character's refusal to wear a helmet in contrast to the Mandalorian's adherence to keeping it on. Esquire then asked if Pascal wished he had more Mandalorian scenes without the helmet, to which he replied:

"I mean, do you see how good I look in that outfit head to toe? The argument can be made that's the best I've ever looked, so let's just leave it."

Pascal's response, while humorous, also seems to debunk some pervasive rumors that the actor was leaving the show because he supposedly wanted more face time. So far, Disney has not confirmed this, and Pascal is still set to reprise his role in season 3. Despite the rumors, Pascal himself still seems dedicated to The Mandalorian, so Star Wars fans can hopefully rest assured that Pascal is here to stay until further notice.

Nonetheless, The Mandalorian's ambiguity when it comes to wearing — or not wearing — the helmet is almost a story in itself. Even after Din Djarin was seemingly banished from the clan, he still continued to wear his helmet throughout his dealings with Boba Fett, which indicates that Djarin still has some attachment to the old rules. Season 3 may explore the concept further, but creed or no creed, the helmet is still a defining feature of the Mandalorian's costume and will always be a major element of character.
