What The Beta Blockers That Khloé Kardashian Took Actually Do

0

Hulu's newest hit, The Kardashians, is making waves thanks to the sisters reuniting, but fans have noticed that Khloé has started to take beta-blockers for her health. The scene of any Kardashian taking medication or choosing to undergo cosmetic surgery is not new to anyone. Khloé, however, is now looking into managing her personal health.

Since first watching Keeping Up with the Kardashian, fans were quick to note that Khloé had always had an odd relationship with her body image. Sadly, during their E! show, Khloé was often made fun of for her weight and even singled out by her sisters. The public scrutiny didn't help her well-being as she often compared herself to Kourtney Kardashian or Kim Kardashian, who were naturally thinner. As she got older, Khloé worked extremely hard to maintain a slim figure even while dealing with a behind-the-scenes health issue.

Khloé, like 35 million other Americans, suffers from migraines. Migraines are often referred to as an invisible illness. Fans of the Hulu show will have seen Khloé take a beta-blocker in the newest episode. The point of using a beta-blocker (according to The National Headache Foundation) is for those with migraines like Khloé is to reduce blood vessel dilation, which has been proven to contribute to a migraine attack. A beta-blocker can also reduce the electrical activity in the nervous system, essentially making the nervous system less excitable. A beta-blocker can also suppress electric currents that can trigger migraine with an aura. During the episode, Khloé, who was once called "fat" by Scott Disick, revealed that she also struggles with anxiety. In relation to anxiety, beta-blockers can be helpful when it comes to managing symptoms for some. However, it is important to note that beta-blockers only work as a treatment for short-term anxiety, such as before a stressful event like Khloé's appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Khloé has been very open about her migraines and anxiety, which was mainly caused by online haters. Fun fact, about 43 percent of women have them, and they are usually due to hormones. For many people like Khloé, the goal is to have others understand that the neurologic issue is more than just a bad headache. A migraine can knock a patient out of commission for days and often feel like their head has been hit over and over again with a hammer. During an attack, Khloé from The Kardashian or a person with the same issue has symptoms such as debilitating levels of pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and blurred vision (aura).

Khloé has already become the face of a new OTC migraine medicine called Nurtec. While ethical questions have been raised about the validity of an influencer pushing big pharma, The Kardashian star is claiming she got her life back. Many were upset regarding the power imbalance of someone of influence being able to make money off of others' painful issues. For now, Khloé is taking one day at a time while trying to ease into a world with less migraines and stress.
