Aaron Paul Asked Bryan Cranston To Be The Godfather To His New Baby

0

Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul says he asked co-star Bryan Cranston to be godfather to his new baby. Paul and Cranston became an unforgettable TV team when they debuted as Jesse Pinkman and Walter White in season 1 of AMC’s classic drama. And it’s already been confirmed that the duo will reunite at some point during the currently ongoing season 6 of the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul.

The promised BCS return of meth kingpin Walter White and his on-again-off-again assistant Pinkman will indeed be a thrill for fans of the Breaking Bad universe. Of course the relationship between Pinkman and White formed much of the dramatic meat of Breaking Bad, though that relationship would often prove to be toxic indeed. But the infamous White would finally find redemption through Jesse, rescuing his meth cooking protégé and emotional punching bag from neo-Nazis in the classic Breaking Bad finale "Felina."

It’s unbelievably been nine years since Breaking Bad went off the air in such grand fashion in 2013. But happily the show’s two main stars have maintained their relationship after the series’ end and indeed seem to be as tight as ever. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Paul revealed that he even recently asked Cranston for a very special favor (via EW):

"I asked Bryan on his birthday if he would be our baby's godfather. No, he's very excited, very honored. I love the man to death. He's one of my best friends in the world, and, so yeah, it was just a no-brainer."

The airing of "Felina" in 2013 may have marked what everyone thought was the end of the road for Jesse Pinkman and Walter White as characters, but Paul and Cranston have actually come together for several endeavors in the years since that Breaking Bad finale. They of course shared one poignant flashback scene together as White and Pinkman in El Camino: A Breaking Bad movie. In 2019 they also teamed up to release their own brand of Mezcal, appropriately named Dos Hombres. And of course it was just recently revealed that the two will surprisingly once again play Walter and Jesse in an upcoming episode of Better Call Saul season 6.

It’s of course debatable whether it actually makes sense for Better Call Saul to bring back White and Pinkman for season 6. On the one hand, it will be fun for fans to see the two characters back on the screen a final time, even for just a cameo. On the other hand, such cameos often end up feeling flat and gimmicky, and why take the risk of ending things on a sour note for two such beloved characters? No matter how Jesse and Walter’s Better Call Saul return plays out, it’s certain that old friends Paul and Cranston had fun shooting whatever it was they shot for the Breaking Bad spinoff. And there assuredly is a lot of anticipation among fans as Better Call Saul winds up its own television run by tying things back into Breaking Bad.
