I’m a cleaning expert – my hacks will easily banish any type of stuck on grime from your baking trays
IF you like to cook, you know how messy a kitchen can get.
Gathering all the mixing bowls, loading the dishwasher, and trying to scrub off that burnt-on grime from the baking sheet is never any fun.
Speaking to Insider.com, Sarah House—a Food Innovation chef from Bob’s Red Mill—shared a few useful hacks to remove this grime from your pans and sheets.
DISH SOAP AND WATER
Her first hack is a simple one:
“For regular cleaning of metal baking sheets, hot water and dish soap followed with a thorough drying should do the trick,” she said.
To prolong the sleek, shiny look of baking sheets, House said it’s best to hand wash them.

If that doesn’t seem to do the trick, drizzle the tray with dish soap and then let it soak in hot water for about half an hour, then scrub it off.
As an added tip, she said to be sure you clean your nonstick sheets with a soft sponge so that the coating doesn’t peel.
SALT SCRUB
If you find that the food is really stuck on there, House suggested a salt scrub.
“First, soak the baking sheet in soapy water,” she said.

“Remove it from the soaking water and add some extra scouring power by sprinkling coarse salt on the pan.”
Scrub the sheet with a sponge and then rinse and dry.
VINEGAR SOAK
The acidity that comes from vinegar is powerful for removing stubborn grease.
For your baking sheets, fill a closed sink with warm water so that the sheet is fully submerged.
Add half a cup of white vinegar and half a cup of baking soda then let the pan soak for an hour.
When you scrub afterwards, that baked-on grease should slide right off.
BAKING SODA AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
As for another useful hack that involves baking soda, you can combine the ingredient with equal parts hydrogen peroxide to create a paste.
The abrasiveness of baking soda combined with the disinfecting properties of hydrogen peroxide makes this a great combo for kitchen cleaning.
Cover the baking sheet entirely in the paste and let it sit for an hour.
Afterwards, just gently scrub it off, wash, and dry.
VINEGAR AND LEMON JUICE
House’s final tip involved equal parts vinegar and lemon juice.
Apply this mixture to any particularly worn out, rusted spots on the baking sheet and let it sit for five minutes.

The acidity will dissolve the rust, then all you have to do is wash it off and dry.
House added that it’s important to thoroughly dry your baking sheets before you store them, as any left-over moisture could lead to rust over time.
