Bridgerton: The 10 Funniest Quotes | Screen Rant
With season 2 of Bridgerton captivating audiences with the compelling love story between Kate and Anthony, Lady Whistledown's continued 'gossip' column, and Lady Danbury's wisdom, fans can't wait to see what is in store for these characters in season 3.
Although the drama takes center stage in this series, there are a lot of funny moments to keep the audience chuckling. From outright hilarious lines that leave people giggling or a display of ridiculousness from a character that viewers have grown to know well, there are some particularly hilarious lines.
“Daphne! You must make haste!”
The very first episode of Bridgerton is one of the fan favorites, perhaps because it shows the dynamic of their society as well as the focused families.
When the audience gets to see the Bridgerton family in action, preparing for Daphne's debut into society, the siblings are growing impatience waiting for her to come downstairs. Instead of going upstairs to check on her, Eloise simply stands at the bottom of the staircase and shouts. It's a hilarious display that produces at least a little chuckle, giving the audience a sense of the light humor in the show.
“Am I honestly to believe you do not already know my name?”
Although Bridgerton fans hate Simon's arrogance, it's humorous at the start of the show. When Daphne bumps into him at a ball and tries to create conversation to deter the disturbing Nigel, Simon thinks it's some scheme from another young lady that wants to marry the duke.
It's a funny moment because Simon is arrogantly thinking he's the star of the ball, brooding over all of the unwanted attention, when Daphne actually has no clue who he is.
"Losing races to strange women in parks at dawn, imagine the questions I would face."
When Anthony and Kate first meet, she inevitably rides faster on her horse. When she mentions him not telling anyone that he saw her riding alone, he fakes pride, saying he wouldn't admit to being bested by a strange woman in the park.
This is one of Anthony's best quotes in Bridgerton as it shows his subtle interest in a woman after being so convinced he doesn't need to find love to be married. Though a funny quote that, at the very least, gets a smile out of sentimental viewers, it's also the moment their relationship begins to bud.
"We shall do what women do. We shall talk."
After doing some digging, Lady Bridgerton learns about a scandal in Nigel Berbrooke's past, and they decide to spread the word to ruin his reputation so that Daphne would not have to marry him.
Violet saying this is not only a humorous way for her to explain how they'll destroy Berbrooke's reputation but it is also a jibe at the views on women in their society. While other characters say passionate lines about women's struggles, Violet says this line with gusto and confidence in women's influence.
"All is fair in love and war."
Despite the fact that this line is obviously not original to Lady Whistledown, this quote is one of her best to Bridgerton. Although the writer says things of this nature throughout the many issues of her gossip paper, this one emulates the scandalous relations within the social season that her gossip focuses on.
It's funny she says this because it correlates with the connection between the dealings of love in this series, almost as if the whole season is a complex battle of wills and wits.
"Have you found a wife yet? Or are you planning on offending every young girl until there are none left?"
One of the funniest dynamics in the show is the Bridgerton family themselves. While many people have an idea, or first-hand experience, of dealing with the teasing and taunting of siblings, it's always nice to see a genuinely realistic take on siblings' relationships on screen.
These siblings are seen many times poking fun at each other. When Benedict blatantly points out Anthony's chilly demeanor isn't going to earn him any points with potential brides, it's 'funny because it's the truth.'
"How does a lady come to be with child? I thought one needed to be married. Apparently, it’s not even a requirement!"
While she has many funny, snarky lines, this is one of Eloise's best in Bridgerton. This Bridgerton sister is often seen as intelligent and witty, more interested in knowledge than the social events of the season.
However, when she bursts into her household and asks this question, it's simply one of her funniest moments because she's finally found something that completely startles and baffles her. While it's a sad reality that many young women in the show are in the dark about sex and reproduction, the sudden asking of this serious question is humorous at the moment.
Kate Sharma is many things, her character having a depth of personality, but one of her most humorous traits is her competitive nature. When she beats Anthony at a game, she makes it a point to mention that beating him specifically is sweeter than her other victories.
What's most funny about this line is that Anthony is also competitive (which only adds to their attraction to each other), leading to Anthony's pride taking a hit. Since Anthony's stubbornness and inability to listen to the advice of those closest to him is one of the most frustrating aspects of this season, it's satisfying to see haughty Kate take him down a peg or two.
"Oh Pen! Oh, you are finally here. With only my own family to speak to, I’ve begun talking to trees."
While the drama in this show is largely the reason so many viewers love the series so much, the overdramatic nature of some scenes and lines is laughable.
This quote from Eloise is said in a light way, but she says it so dramatically, her impatience with the socialites around her clear, that it makes the line even more hilarious. Despite her siblings taking the reins when it comes to drama, Elosie's overt annoyance with society is often her most funny trait.
