[Baseball] Early Leads Slip Away in DH Loss at ACU
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The San Diego Christian College baseball team let two early leads slip away against the Arizona Christian University Firestorm losing 7-11 and 11-17 in Wednesday's rain cancellation make-up games.
Game One
The Hawks started with an explosive four-run first inning. Alec Arnone got SDCC on the board by driving home senior, Johnny Radomskiy with a double to center field. Aaron Hoch then reached with a single, pushing Billy Strohm, who was in to courtesy run for Arnone, over to third. A double by Ryan Lystlund would plate Strohm for run number two as well as get Hoch to third. Jake Luther would produce a 2 RBI single to make it 4-0 Hawks.
SDCC's starting pitcher, Josh Ross would keep the Firestorm bats relatively silent over the first four innings allowing only a single run in the fourth. The Hawks would answer that run immediately when a Cade Cabral RBI double scored Radomskiy.
Ross got into a little trouble in the fifth, allowing two more Arizona Christian runs, and then loaded the bases with two outs. Chandler DeJong would come in and get the Hawks out of the jam to keep the score in SDCC's favor at 5-3.
The Firestorm would put together a devastating five-run sixth inning and would add on another three in the eighth that would seal the Hawks fate. San Diego Christian's attempted comeback in the bottom of the ninth would erase two runs but would ultimately come up short.
GAME TWO
Another huge scoring burst got the Hawks out to a five-run first inning lead. Cade Cabral and Davin Burroughs would reach base setting up an RBI single by Alec Arnone. Burroughs would then be driven home by a Tre Pankratz double to right field. Back-to-back walks to Trevor Baker and Carl Hudson would load the bases and then plate a run. A single by Paul Marsillo would drive home the final two runs of the inning.
The Firestorm would score two in the second inning to pull within three. The two teams would then exchange identical scores over the next three innings. Each time ACU scored in the top, SDCC would answer in kind in the bottom. The Firestorm's two in the third was answered with two by the Hawks. Their three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth were also matched by SDCC.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Arizona Christian would tally nine runs over the final two innings that SDCC did not equal.
