I bought a home with three other single mums & we’re all raising kids together – the place is a mess but we don’t care

AS we’re sure any mums will agree, the biggest treat in the world is having a few hours to yourself in the house to enjoy some peace and quiet.

But when you’re in the midst of a particularly brutal break-up, it can all of a sudden feel very lonely.

This is the exact scenario best friends Holly Harper and Herrin Hopper found themselves in at the start of the pandemic.

Speaking to TODAY Parents, the mums – who were going through divorces at a similar time – explained how they always used to joke about creating a “mum commune” in Vermont.

But as they struggled to adapt to life as single parents, the pair decided to actually give it a go.

Herrin said: “Within a weekend we found this house.”

After getting two other single mums on board, the women moved into the four-unit house – which means each family has their own separate wing.

Needless to say, the divorce and pandemic turned Herrin’s life completely upside down – but she says “The Siren House” has been a life-saver.

What’s more, the opportunity also came at a good time for Holly too – following the split, pandemic and her dad’s passing.

Describing how it felt, Herrin said: “Just like my life was burned to the ground.

“I could turn to Herrin and say, ‘I literally have nothing left. Let’s just do this.”

That said, having five children living under one roof can be just as chaotic and messy as it sounds.

Herrin added: “We don’t know whose socks are whose … there’s socks everywhere.

“iPads, dishes, cups. There’s a lot of exchanging that occurs. Usually not planned.”

What’s more, the kids – who are all aged between nine and 14 – love the unusual set-up too and see each other like “cousins”.

Holly added: “There’s always someone to play a game with. It’s just the most fun.”
