Doctor Strange 2 Mordo Character Details Shared By Chiwetel Ejiofor

0

Star Chiwetel Ejiofor reveals new Mordo character details for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and teases a "bonkers" sequel. The Oscar nominee made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the first Doctor Strange movie as a member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts who works as the right-hand of the Ancient One and trains Benedict Cumberbatch's titular hero in his efforts to become a sorcerer. Upon learning of the Ancient One's use of Dark Dimension energy for her immortality, Mordo eventually parts ways with Strange and Wong in a quest to rid the world of corrupt sorcerers.

Ejiofor and Cumberbatch are returning for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness alongside Benedict Wong as Wong, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West. The MCU sequel picks up the story from WandaVisionLoki season 1 and Spider-Man: No Way Home as Strange grapples with the consequences of opening the doors to the multiverse and work with old and new allies, including Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez, to stop a mysterious new adversary threatening various realities. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to be a wild ride with many familiar faces returning and now one star is sharing some insight for their return.

In honor of Showtime's upcoming The Man Who Fell to Earth series, Chiwetel Ejiofor caught up with Entertainment Tonight. Looking ahead to his MCU return for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the star shared new Mordo character details, including his new position of power. Check out what Ejiofor revealed below:

"It's pretty bonkers, and it's going to be really exciting. It's been a real joy to bring that team back together, and [director] Sam [Raimi] made me sort of the leader for this film, and, you know, I just think his work is so extraordinary and has been for so long. So it was very, very exciting, and I think people are really going to enjoy it."

Anticipation for Ejiofor's return as Mordo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been high since the first film's post-credits scene saw the former ally visit Benjamin Bratt's Jonathan Pangborn and steal his magic from him with the threat of the world having too many sorcerer's, teasing his transformation into the villain Baron Mordo. During the sequel's development, theories continued to circulate regarding Mordo's potential role in the film, namely as early plot details hinted at the main villain of the film being a friend-turned-enemy. However, with Olsen also returning and continuing the narrative of WandaVision, many theories have similarly pointed towards the Scarlet Witch being the ultimate big bad of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with various trailers continuing to drop hints towards this theory.

While the main antagonist for the film is yet to be seen, it does seem clear that Ejiofor's Mordo will not be the primary villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but rather an obstacle in his path. Trailers for the film have indicated Mordo is now working with the Illuminati, bringing Strange in to the secret society to pay for his crimes against reality and with Ejiofor teasing that director Sam Raimi made him "sort of the leader" on the sequel, it seems possible Mordo could even have been the founder of the group. Only time will tell what's to come from Mordo's return when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6.
