I RSVP’ed yes to a wedding then got an unexpected invoice – now I don’t know what to do

A CONFUSED wedding guest has taken to the internet for advice about what to do regarding an unexpected invoice they received from the bride and groom.

They claimed after RSVPing, they received a bill of $75 per head in an expectation that they will come to the wedding and pay for their food.

After RSVPing, they claimed they got an invoice to pay for their dinner at the event[/caption]

In the post, the wedding guest said they were completely “stupefied” after replying “yes” with their partner to a “beautiful wedding invitation” only to be sent an invoice in return.

“Days later, we receive a sweet voicemail of thanks (for responding) followed by A REQUEST FOR $150 TO COVER DINNER AT $75.00 [PER PERSON]!!!

“OK, WHAAAUUUTTT?!?!?”

The poster then asked if anyone had ever heard of such a thing.

They concluded: “Btw, this is not a destination wedding and even at those we’ve attended, we’ve NEVER had to PAY for a plate!! Help!!”

The Reddit community ended up responding to the cry for help, and they seemed just as confused as the poster – and some were even furious at the thought.

“Weddings have turned into fundraisers. It is embarrassing.

“We go to weddings to celebrate with friends and family.

“We have always been generous.

“Maybe I am old-fashioned but this is upsetting,” one reader complained.

“Apparently this is a fairly common thing now, but I can’t help but think it’s incredibly rude,” another person added.

“People (family in particular) often feel obligated to attend weddings and gifts aren’t really gifts if they are considered obligations.

“I don’t think anyone should be one should be expected to pay to attend a wedding.”

A third person shared a similar sentiment and wrote: “That is so f**king ridiculous that I would’ve made a statement out of staying the f**k away.

“I’m getting worked up just thinking about someone having the nerve to do that.”

Several other commenters noted that they have known of this happening within their social circles, so it does seem to be a rising trend.

Of course, this is not the first time someone has had an issue with a bride or groom.

For instance, one bridesmaid admitted she was thinking of quitting her friend’s bridal party after the bride made ridiculous and costly demands.

Plus, another bride was so rude the day of her wedding that a bridesmaid admitted she walked out.
