Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 Release Date: Biggest Leaks & Rumors

0

Rumors and leaks for Poppy Playtime's Chapter 2 release date are everywhere at the moment, and the biggest ones are pretty exciting. Some fans have been hard at work sleuthing out any details that they can get their hands on, leading to a few gems that have been uncovered so far - though as with all potential leaks, their veracity is questionable. Fans of the first chapter will have to wait and see to learn anything concrete, but that may come sooner than expected.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 has been upcoming for some time now, after MOB Games released an announcement trailer in March. The first chapter enjoyed a massive overnight success, due in no small part to its signature monster. Kids love Poppy Playtime's Huggy Wuggy for some reason, and it's even more popular than Poppy, the namesake of the game. Mommy Long Legs, the main monster for Chapter 2 according to the trailer, has also been making the rounds of the internet, and although it hasn't enjoyed as much popularity as Huggy, that may change when the next installment officially comes out. From what's available to the public so far, it looks like players' main goal will be escaping from the Playtime Co. toy factory.

A SteamDB leak states that the next Poppy Playtime is scheduled to release on April 29, which could mean it's just around the corner. There's also a litany of fan theories and rumored content out at the moment, but none of it can be confirmed as of yet. Poppy Playtime Chapter 2's release should have lore revelations for hardcore fans, or answer questions like what exactly happened to the former Playtime Co. employees. No matter what it holds, it's looking like Fly in a Web will be even better - and more frightening - than the last chapter.

Aside from the release date, one of the biggest theories is Mommy Long Legs' true form. In the recent MOB Games teaser trailer, a commercial shows how it was marketed to kids, as well as its darker side. A brief frame from the video shows a vague figure that bears some resemblance to Mommy Long Legs. It's tough to make out, but its face appears distorted, and not quite like the other depictions of it that have come so far. A close examination also reveals that it would appear to have five limbs. Mommy Long Legs' story in Poppy Playtime isn't known yet, but it is confirmed to only have four limbs. It's possible that the extra one in the video is its neck, but the angle of the torso and a shadow on an arm suggest otherwise. Mommy Long Legs could gain additional limbs at some point in Chapter 2, and become even more terrifying.

Another theory related to Mommy Long Legs is a male counterpart. Daddy Long Legs is a (for now) non-canonical character depicted as a male version of Mommy Long Legs, in the same way that Kissy Missy is Huggy Wuggy's female counterpart. It's been circulating around the internet in the form of fan art and animations, but MOB Games has yet to comment. Huggy Wuggy already has a "better half," so the series could continue the trend. If Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 introduces Daddy Long Legs, what role it would play or what its final design would be can't be said for certain, but given so much pop-culture weight thrust behind the idea, it seems to have gained enough momentum to possibly become a reality.

There's also things that have been explicitly confirmed by MOB Games. Fly in a Web's Steam page offers a few details that might seem innocuous, but hold some clues as to what players can expect when they return to the Playtime Co. toy factory. One point of interest is "The Train Station," also called the "Game Station." It's an area that's said to contain games and a playground, as well as a direct route out of the factory. It sounds like reaching it could be the ultimate goal of Chapter 2. If future Poppy Playtime chapters take players outdoors, then this could be where this chapter ends and the next begins after an escape from Playtime Co., as well as Mommy Long Legs and whoever - or whatever - else inhabits it.

It's also confirmed that there will be additional monsters in addition to Mommy Long Legs. The Steam page mentions one "Bunzo Bunny" as well as "PJ Pug-a-pillar." Details on these two are currently unavailable, but it's possible that Pug-a-pillar is the large purple caterpillar-like monster shown in the reveal trailer. The monsters of Playtime Co. have so far been anything but friendly, so it's possible that these two will both at least be supporting antagonists. Since Chapter 2 is supposed to be at least twice as long as Chapter 1, A Tight Squeeze, it makes sense for there to be more enemies. Not much is known so far, however, not even whether Mommy Long Legs is Chapter 2's real villain; Steam says that the player should ask "Mommy," as well as Bunzo and PJ, about a "crooked past," which implies a helpful role. "Mommy" is heavily implied but not explicitly stated to be Mommy Long Legs, so it would appear that all three of them could go either way.

There are also more subtle things hidden in the Steam page. It states "This factory is filled with remnants of a crooked past- All you need to do is go deeper," which has a few implications. The first is that more lore is coming, specifically something related to the disappearance of the factory's workers. 10 years prior to the start of the game, all of them disappeared, but what exactly happened to them was never revealed in Chapter 1. If Chapter 2 shows what happened to the Playtime Co. employees, then one of the biggest questions of the series could be answered. That may not be a good thing, however. Part of Poppy Playtime's scare factor comes from its mystery, so taking that away may harm it. Five Nights at Freddy's, a big inspiration for the game, teased its secrets for quite some time across its series, so it may be best for Poppy Playtime to do the same.

Something else that may come to light is the details of the human experiments that resulted in the monstrous living toys that stalk the halls of the factory. Huggy Wuggy is heavily implied to be "Experiment 1006" on one of the Chapter 1 VHS tapes, but it's far from the only one. After falling to its apparent death at the GrabPack hands of the player character at the end of Chapter 1, Huggy is small in the Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 trailer, raising many questions about the exact nature of it and the other toys. The full details of all of the experiments haven't been revealed yet, but the Poppy Playtime maintenance video released by MOB Games shows that the toys were implanted with organic material that presumably came from the Playtime Co. employees. Poppy Playtime has quite a few questions that its players are eager to find answers to, and they could come in Chapter 2.
