Rockstar's GTA+ Subscription Service Could Launch on PC

0

Details featured in a job posting suggest Rockstar Games is looking to expand its GTA+ service for Grand Theft Auto Online to PC. Rockstar announced the GTA+ membership program late last months, only days before the subscription became available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The premium subscription model boasts a price tag of $6 per month, which nets users access to member-only discounts, vehicle upgrades, exclusive rewards, RP and in-game credit bonuses, and a monthly deposit of GTA$500,000.

GTA+ also offers unique Shark Cards and the chance to claim properties around the Los Santos area. Notably, the latter unlocks previous gameplay updates that players may have missed. Many GTA Online regulars were quick to express their frustration with the announcement, regardless of the perks. One group of players even boycotted GTA Online the day service launched, making clear their disdain towards the existence of a paid subscription for a game that already costs money. Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive seemingly have no plan to reverse course, though.

A job listing on the official Rockstar Games Careers page, spotted by Tech4Gamers, hints that GTA+ could eventually migrate to PC. The posting in question shows the company's interest in hiring a Product Manager for GTA+ Subscriptions. Whomever the studio signs on to lead the program's growth will help drive the "implementation of features across our own storefronts on the web [and] our PC application," the 'What We Do' section reads in part. It's clear, then, that GTA Online's contentious subscription model will stick around for the foreseeable future.

Of course, the Product Manager job description lacks specifics, meaning details such as when the PC version may launch and how its offerings will compare to those on console presently remain unknown. If the GTA+ service does receive an expansion sometime in the future, it'll be intriguing to see how players on PC respond to the news.

There's currently no word on how well Grand Theft Auto Online's GTA+ membership is performing on the current-gen PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have yet to detail the number of early adopters, but the apparent interest in expanding to PC could tell the tale. Either the newly released GTA+ subscription model is doing so well on consoles that it warrants the chance to reach a wider audience or the membership numbers are so low that expansion has become a necessity.
