Diablo Immortal Release Date and PC Launch Confirmed In New Trailer
Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.
Not only has Blizzard Entertainment confirmed a summer launch date for Diablo Immortal on Android and iOS, but the company also announced plans to release the title in open beta on PC. Activision unveiled Diablo Immortal to poor fan reception during BlizzCon 2018. While franchise faithful patiently awaited news of a fourth mainline entry, Blizzard had devoted time and resources to a mobile-only adventure. Diablo IV finally took center stage at BlizzCon 2019, yet skepticism about the Android and iOS game never fully dissipated.
Blizzard Entertainment is producing Diablo Immortal in conjunction with NetEase, the team known for developing the likes of King of Hunter and Marvel Super War. Despite initial reservations about the project, the response from those who've played in-progress builds indicates Immortal offers a faithful adaptation of the core Diablo experience. But since a touch screen still doesn't seem like the ideal way to play the role-playing title, the latest news out of Blizzard should please many a fan.
Activision Blizzard delayed Diablo Immortal to 2022 last year; fortunately, the company plans on following through on this launch window. Today, April 25, Blizzard Entertainment announced a June 2 release date for Diablo Immortal on Android and iOS. That's not all, though. Surprisingly, a PC version is also in development and will enter open beta on June 2 alongside the mobile launch, Blizzard confirmed in an all-new gameplay trailer. The new look at Diablo Immortal further confirms cross-play on PC. Check out the trailer in question in the Twitter post linked below:
Those interested in the free-to-play title can pre-register now via the official Diablo Immortal website. Registration, along with the summer 2022 release date confirmation, means the wait for Diablo's first mobile outing is finally coming to a close. Of course, Blizzard's announcement of a proper PC iteration serves as the icing on the cake that will no doubt excite countless longtime fans of the series.
The PC-related news may not sit well with those who remember the Diablo Immortal announcement fiasco, however. During the original 2018 reveal, one developer notoriously asked fans if they owned mobile phones after fielding questions about a possible PC port. Bringing the adventure to PC still constitutes the right move, though, especially since the general hype surrounding the project seems rather tame compared to previous Diablo releases. Whether or not the Immortal title will help ease the wait for Diablo IV remains to be seen.
Diablo Immortal hits Android and iOS on June 22, with a PC beta slated for the same day.
