I’m a DIY pro – the easy way to transform ugly wire shelving into a fashionable ‘floating wood’ design
EVEN your kitchen shelves deserve to look chic and modern, but buying and installing new hardware is an expensive hassle.
One DIY genius on TikTok shared her simple hack for transforming wire shelves into floating “wood” shelves, and the process used no power tools – just leftover craft supplies.
Stefanie Bloom shared the renter-friendly “remodel” to her 1.7million TikTok followers.
Bloom began by gathering her materials: foam board (she used two foam boards for one shelf), scissors, packing tape, and wallpaper.
Though the expert used peel-and-stick wallpaper, you could also use contact paper or any patterned paper with a strong adhesive.
“Take your foam board, and use a measuring stick to line it all up with the entire shelf,” Bloom demonstrated.

Once Bloom had measured her foam board, she cut it into pieces.
“I just use normal kitchen scissors to cut out the foam board,” she explained.
After double-checking her measurements, Bloom used packing tape to turn the foam boards into a “frame” for the paper that could cover the shelf.
She taped the edges together so there would be a smooth surface for her paper and it could go on with no bubbles.

“I had these wallpaper leftovers, so that is what I used to make them look like wood,” Bloom explained.
After covering the foam board frame in patterned paper, Bloom slid the fixture over her wire shelves, completing the transformation.
One commenter who had executed a similar hack in their own home shared their strategy for making the process even easier.
“Use an Exacto knife, and don’t cut through the back paper portion, then fold it over,” they advised.
Bloom thanked the viewer for their tips and moved along in the comments to advise another person.
The other commenter had asked how to use the hack on tall shelves with exposed bottoms that would be visible to anyone in the room.
“Make a bottom with the same measurements and It will just slide on,” Bloom said.

Bloom’s followers expressed gratitude for the low-cost, low-effort methods she used.
“I just bought a fixer-upper and oh my gosh you’ve helped me so much,” a viewer wrote.
