The New York Times reported that tickets for the 2021 gala cost $35,000 each and tables ranged from $200,000 to $300,000.

Most of the time, celebrities are invited to the Met Gala by fashion brands, who will pay for the tickets for the celebs to attend. It was reported last year that some of the biggest fashion brands were asked to pay for the tickets for up-and-coming designers who couldn’t afford the price.

The Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and the money that is raised goes to the upkeep of the museum. Page Six reported a few years ago how some of the members of the “Friends of the Costume Institute” group are not even invited.

“Anna [Wintour] is extremely restrictive on who can buy a ticket,” a source told the outlet. “Many people I know who are Friends, [and] who have the money to pay, have been turned down. Anna decides they can’t go. Period.”
