Achieving the feel and look of luxury in your house doesn’t necessarily mean forking out a small fortune.

Rather than splashing the cash, an interior design expert, who goes by the acronym @momnetofchange on TikTok, advises avoiding a series of common mistakes that make your home look cheap instead.

In several videos, the expert sets out to highlight the various traps homeowners often fall into.

So, are you guilty of any of them?

Among the biggest offenders in the first video include multi-type hangers, messy cables, back door hangers, and bad lighting.

Not stopping there, a second clip goes on to list a whole host of other allegedly tacky decor choices.

These include vertical blinds, fairly lights (exclusive of Christmas season), a chaotic staircase photo gallery and empty staircase walls.

According to the interior design expert, stretch sofa covers, short curtains and more grey crushed velvet sofas are also reoffending culprits.

However, social media users were quick to take to the comments section – and not everyone was in agreement.

“Disagree with the over the door hangers. You can some really nice ones, whether ornate or contemporary depending on the room. Great for the bathroom,” wrote one.

“Oh well. I guess I’m just cheap,” joked a second.

A third added: “Hmm. Fairly sure that the cheapest look is achieved as soon as you try to look expensive.”

Meanwhile, others took the opportunity to name other things they consider to be tacky.

“Signs that say ‘live, laugh, love,'” wrote one.

A second commented: “Crushed velvet sofas, fake panelling, over-done grey.”
