Vampire Diaries: Who Is Nadia Petrova’s Father? | Screen Rant
Nadia Petrova reuniting with her long-lost mother was a major plotline in The Vampire Diaries season 5, but who is her father? Played by Russian-American actor Olga Fonda, Nadia Petrova made her Vampire Diaries debut during the season 5 premiere episode “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” She arrived in the town of Mystic Falls as part of a nomadic group of ancient and powerful witches known as The Travelers and at first claimed to be there to help her people entomb the immortal Silas (Paul Wesley) once again.
However, it was soon revealed why Vampire Diaries newcomer Nadia was really in Mystic Falls and that was to track down Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) – or Katerina Petrova, to call the character by her birth name – who she had a rather close connection with. It turned out Nadia was none other than Katerina’s daughter, making her the baby girl she gave birth to in a Vampire Diaries season 2 flashback that saw the child being taken away by Katerina’s father for being born out of wedlock.
Nadia revealed that she’d spent over 500 years searching for her long-lost mother and even intentionally became a vampire so that she’d have longer to track Katerina down. Katerina also confessed that she’d returned to her home country Bulgaria to search for Nadia eight years after her birth, but failed to find her then. The pair shared an emotional reunion, but their reconciliation was sadly short-lived because Nadia died just a few episodes later after succumbing to a bite wound inflicted by werewolf Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino). On the upside at least Nadia got to reunite with her mother before her death, but the identity of her father remains a mystery.
The Vampire Diaries never revealed who Nadia’s father was and the character was always more concerned with finding her mother than exploring her paternal roots. Even the season 2 flashback of Katerina giving birth gives away very little about her paternal origin, beyond revealing she was born out of wedlock and that Katerina "disgraced" her family by having her – which potentially suggests Nadia’s father was somebody deemed unworthy by Katerina’s parents.
While not exactly a driving mystery on the show it is an intriguing, unanswered Vampire Diaries question nonetheless. That said, there are a couple of clues as to who may have fathered Nadia Petrova in The Vampire Diaries. A deleted scene from the show’s fifth season saw Katerina hint that Nadia’s father was also a Traveler but considering the scene was cut, the confession likely isn’t canon. Nevertheless, the reveal led some corners of the show’s fandom to speculate a fellow Traveler named Markos (Raffi Barsouiman) could be Nadia’s father – in fact, there’s a whole section of a Vampire Diaries fanfiction wiki dedicated to that very theory.
