Kids Grow! Community Garden Project
Join this ongoing group and be part of the very first kids’ library community garden project!
While the garden planting is underway with a full group, there are more activities available beyond the initial planting.
May 14, and June 25 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM at Main Library Children’s Activity Room
Background
The Williamson County Public Library and Williamson County Parks & Rec have established a community partnership to promote awareness of pollinators and what the public can do to help increase the pollinator population.
Parks & Rec generously gave two beds in their Community Garden to the library for adults and children to plant pollinator gardens. This project is the first of what we hope will be many joint projects between the library and Parks & Rec. and the first of many garden programs for children.
The Program
The Kids Grow! Community Garden Project has both library and at home components.
– Nature Journaling
Make a nature journal to use in observing the garden
– Pollinators
Learn about pollinators with a Master Gardener
Make a pollinator field guide to use when visiting the garden or at home
Families can participate in the Kids Grow! Project at home also!
Between library programs, children and their families are encouraged to visit the Community Garden to observe and record how it is growing. Siblings who are not registered for the program can make their own journals at home to use on these visits.
We want our flowers to remain in the Community garden to attract pollinators, so each family will receive a pack of wildflower seeds to plant and enjoy at home. Observe them as they grow and record what you see in your journal. Don’t forget to look for pollinators!
Visit a local park to look for wildflowers and pollinators. Take a guided hike with a park ranger.
