Doctor Strange 2 Fan Poster Imagines a Live-Action Captain Carter
A new fan poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness imagines Hayley Atwell playing Captain Carter the live-action movie. Atwell made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Agent Peggy Carter in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. As its title implies, Carter witnessed Steve Rogers get administered the Super Soldier Serum and become Captain America. Atwell would go on to reprise her role in the Agent Carter spin-off series and Disney+’s animated What If…?, which explores the multiverse, variants, and alternate versions of key MCU events.
In What If…?’s pilot, entitled “What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger,” Peggy is administered the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers and, therefore, becomes Captain Carter. She goes on to lead the Guardians of the Multiverse to victory against Ultron in the final episodes of season 1. What If…? has been confirmed as canon within the MCU, and many assume the multiversal series will tie into the live-action films. Furthermore, the Doctor Strange sequel, Multiverse of Madness, has teased the inclusion of Captain Carter by hiding her shield in posters. More recently, Marvel Studios seemingly confirmed Captain Carter and Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau in a 15-second TV spot.
Agt Design on Instagram recently shared some art that serves as a poster for Multiverse of Madness. The piece imagines Atwell’s live-action Captain Carter alongside, Doctor Strange, Defender Strange, Scarlet Witch, America Chavez, Karl Mordo, and Professor Charles Xavier. Check it out below:

Following WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Sam Raimi’s Multiverse of Madness will see Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular character deal with a looming, multiversal threat. With a script by Loki creator Michael Waldron, the film will include a variety of new and returning characters throughout the Marvel canon. In addition to Cumberbatch, the sequel stars Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor from the first film. They are joined by Xochitl Gomez in her debut as America Chavez and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch—who may serve as an antagonistic force as she continues to search for her children. Multiverse of Madness’ trailers have revealed variants of characters including Defender Strange, an evil Strange (reminiscent of the What If…? character), Scarlet Witch, and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X—who is a member of a version of Marvel’s Illuminati, a secret society made up of the most powerful superheroes.
In the comics, the Illuminati includes Professor X, Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man, Black Bolt, Namor, and Doctor Strange. Promos suggest that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ multiversal Illuminati will feature Charles Xavier, Monica Rambeau, Mordo, and Captain Carter. It remains to be seen if the latter character is indeed the same one from What If…? or simply another variant. Regardless, fans can’t wait to see Atwell’s shield in live-action and in theaters on May 6th.
