Ms. Marvel Show Will Get Theatrical Release in Pakistan

0

Ms. Marvel, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series coming to Disney+, will get a theatrical release in Pakistan. The show centers around Kamala Khan, a teenager living in Jersey City, who happens to be a big fan of Captain Marvel. Through a set of magical bangles, Khan gains the ability to wield cosmic energy and become a superhero herself. Khan's origin story and powers in the Ms. Marvel series will have some deviations from the comics, which depict her with stretching powers derived from exposure to Terrigen Mist.

One element that does stay true to the comics, however, is Khan's Pakistani heritage. To tell the story of the MCU's first Pakistani-American superhero, Marvel tapped Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and cast Iman Vellani in the titular role. The series will include six episodes set to release on Disney+ every Wednesday between June 8 and July 13.

While Ms. Marvel has drawn much excitement for its representation of Pakistan, the country of Pakistan does not yet have access to Disney+ and audiences there would not have been able to see the show. But now, as announced by Obaid-Chinoy, Pakistani fans will get a chance to see Ms. Marvel at the cinema. According to Collider, Marvel Studios will release all six episodes — two at a time, every two weeks — in Pakistani movie theaters. Episodes 1 and 2 will premiere on June 16, followed by episodes 3 and 4 on June 30, and episodes 5 and 6 on July 14. The release was made possible through The Walt Disney Company and Marvel Studios' partnership with HKC Entertainment.

The decision to release the episodes in pairs every two weeks is likely to avoid possible leaks. Despite the first episode dropping in Pakistan eight days after its initial release, the schedule still allows the Pakistani audience to remain caught up on the series with other viewers around the world. Pakistani fans also get to experience something other fans around the world won't — Ms. Marvel on the big screen.

Ms. Marvel is shaping up to be a historic series for the MCU in more ways than one, becoming the first Disney+ original series to be shown in movie theaters. For a show in which Pakistani culture plays a significant role, it's only appropriate that the people of Pakistan get a chance to see it for themselves. Following Ms. Marvel, the world will soon see more of Kamala Khan as she's set to work alongside Captain Marvel herself in The Marvels in 2023.
