The Mets announced on Tuesday before their doubleheader with the Braves at Citi Field that they’ve placed right-handed reliever Trevor May on the 15-day injured list. The rules just went back to 15-day IL along with roster sizes to 26 on Monday.
To take May’s spot on the roster, the Mets have recalled right-handed pitcher Adonis Medina.
May has been dealing with right triceps inflammation recently and even had an MRI for it earlier in the season. The reliever told reporters on Monday night after a rough outing vs the Braves that he was still not feeling 100% healthy.
May, a free agent after the season, has allowed eight runs on 13 hits in 8 1/3 innings this year. His strikeout rate from 2021 of 11.9 K/9 has dropped all the way down to 5.4 K/9 this season.
Medina, 25, faced three batters and struck all of them out in his Mets debut on April 23. He was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse following the outing. Medina has a 3.00 ERA in six innings for the Syracuse Mets this season.
The Mets acquired Medina on April 7 when they claimed him off waivers from the Pirates.
