Liverpool become first team to play every minute of all four competitions as Klopp makes managerial history

LIVERPOOL made history by beating Villarreal to reach the Champions League final on Tuesday night.

The Reds recovered from 2-0 down in Spain to run out 3-2 winners – 5-2 on aggregate – to book their spot against Real Madrid or Manchester City in this month’s showpiece in Paris.

But in reaching the final, Liverpool ensured they become the first English team to EVER play every available minute in a single season across all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp‘s Quadruple-chasers have already won the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final later this month, as well as fight for the Premier League title – as the Kop squad sit just one point below City with four games to play.

And now they will contest the Champions League final at the end of the month.

That means Liverpool will have played every single minute available to them this season.

And that wasn’t the only record the rampant Reds broke on Tuesday night.

In scoring three times at Villarreal, the 2021-22 squad broke the club record for most goals in a single season.

Liverpool have now netted 139 times in all competitions with six matches to spare.

The Anfield side’s previous best season in terms of goals scored came in the 1985-86 campaign, when they found the net 138 times.

The Reds are now also the first English club to play in all three major finals available – the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

They also became just the FOURTH team to reach ten or more European Cup finals, behind only Real Madrid (16), AC Milan and Bayern Munich (both 11).

Meanwhile, Klopp has equalled the record for most Champions League finals as a manager.
