[Softball] Softball Honors Released
SYLVANIA, Ohio - (Complete Honors) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced its All-Conference Team, All-Academic Team, All-Defensive, and Champions of Character Teams for the 2022 softball season. Veronica Pezzoni of Madonna earned Player of the Year with a .538 batting average and scoring 44 runs. Maeson Schlaud of Madonna was named Pitcher of the Year as she went 19-1 with a 0.98 ERA and 181 strikeouts. Concordia freshman Payton Lewis was named Newcomer of the Year with a .390 batting average and 41 RBI.
UM-Dearborn head coach Vince Alessandrini was voted as Coach of the Year after guiding the Wolverines to a runner-up finish with a 17-5 WHAC record. Kelsey Kooistra of Cornerstone was votes as the Champions of Character Coach for her commitment to developing character through sport.
Members of the All-AcademicTeam must be a junior or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA while those on the Champions of Character Team best represent the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. The All-Defensive Team honors one player in each position for her defensive achievements.
