While on their way to the hotel, Kris – who threw the engagement party – explained that Kourtney‘s kids weren’t invited because of the logistics to get them there.
“Listen, for us to have to lie to Scott and get them here under false pretenses would’ve been really hard for all of us,” Kris said. “So you know what? This is the right thing to do … that’s the way I feel about it.”
She also thought that the kids were too young to be there.
After getting engaged, Travis called his dad, Randy, to share the exciting news, while Kourtney acknowledged that she had to call her kids and tell them.
“How do I tell my kids?” Kourtney asked the group. “I feel like I need to tell them now.”
In a confessional, Kourtney started getting emotional that her kids weren’t there.
“I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would’ve made them feel more included in the decision kind of, like part of the surprise,” Kourtney said in the confessional. “I know that my mom made that decision, and it probably wasn’t her best.”
She then checked her phone and realized that she had missed calls from Penelope.
Kourtney then left the room to FaceTime Penelope.
“Do you want to know what my surprise was?” Kourtney asked Penelope. “We got engaged!”
While fans didn’t see her phone, Penelope can be heard crying, while Kourtney asked her, “Is that upsetting?”
Penelope then abruptly hung up on her.
“I feel bad for P,” Kourtney said, adding in a confessional, “Penelope took it hard. I think it’s a big change for her and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn’t know what that means. Is that taking me away? I think she doesn’t know what it means.”
Kourtney then FaceTimed Reign to tell him the news, and his only reaction was asking what getting engaged meant, before saying “not exciting.”
Kourtney also FaceTimed Mason twice, but he didn’t answer her calls.
After the calls, Kourtney and her sisters talked about her kids’ reactions.
“Penelope is upset,” Khloé continued. “They think they’re losing their dad, I don’t think they think they’re losing their mom. They think their dad is gone and Travis is replacing him. When you’re a kid, you think you have to pick one, so P’s reaction is understandably okay. But there’s nothing wrong with Travis. It’s the same way we felt about [Caitlyn Jenner]. There was nothing wrong with [Caitlyn].”
Kourtney agreed, saying, “Once my dad was accepting of [Caitlyn], it felt like we could take a deep breath and be friendly with [Caitlyn] and get along with him and not feel bad.”
“I think that it’s really important for Scott to be accepting of our relationship so that the kids can feel good,” she added in a confessional.
