[Baseball] Offenses Stand Out on First Day of Championship
While the first day of action at the 2022 California Pacific Conference Baseball Championship provided no upsets, the four games played at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., were full of hits, runs, comebacks, and one outstanding pitching duel. Embry-Riddle, the #4 seed and playing in the postseason in its inaugural season, opened the day with a 4-2 win over #5 Marymount California, followed by a thrilling 2-1 matchup between #2 Saint Katherine and #3 Benedictine Mesa. The Firebirds won their fifth consecutive one-run game over the Redhawks. Top-seeded Antelope Valley had to rally to overtake ERAU 11-8, and BENU exploded for 15 runs in the six-inning nightcap against MCU. With the win, the Redhawks earned their 30th win of the season and, for the first time in league history, gave the Cal Pac three 30-win teams.
