Who is Jen Psaki?

Jen Psaki, 43, from Stamford, Connecticut, was the former White House press secretary under President Joe Biden.

She graduated from the College of William & Mary with a degree in English and sociology in 2000.

She began her career in the early 2000s, working on the re-election campaigns of Iowa Democrats Tom Harkin for the Senate and Tom Vilsack for governor in 2001.

In 2004, Psaki became deputy press secretary for John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign, before serving as communications director to Joseph Crowley the following year.

She also acted as press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee until 2006.

Between 2008 and 2015, Psaki worked in various press and communications roles in the Obama administration, including as Deputy Press Secretary, Communications Director and spokesperson for the US Department of State.

The talented comms manager was tipped several times to take over the top job as White House press secretary, although this role was actually filled by Josh Earnest.

She left the Obamas briefly in 2011 to work as the senior vice president and managing director at the Global Strategy Group.

In 2017, Psaki left the White House to become a CNN contributor.

She returned alongside Joe Biden in 2021 to act as White House press secretary.

On Thursday, May 6, 2021, Psaki confirmed she intended on leaving the White House in 2022.

Speaking on The Axe Files podcast, Psaki said: “I think it’s going to be time for somebody else to have this job, in a year from now or about a year from now.”

Is Jen Psaki married?

In 2010, Psaki married Gregory Mecher, a deputy finance director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The pair met while working together in 2006.

The couple has two children.

What did Jen Psaki say in her first press conference?

Psaki ran her first official presidential press conference on January 20, 2022.

Back then she promised to bring “truth and transparency” to her new role as White House press secretary.

She opened the conference by saying: “Good evening, everyone. Thank you for joining us on this historic day.

“It’s an honor to be here with all of you. When the president asked me to serve in this role, we talked about the importance of bringing truth and transparency back to the briefing room.”

She added: “I have deep respect for the role of a free and independent press in our democracy.”

Psaki covered a number of issues relating to the raft of executive orders signed off by President Biden, including his 100-day masking order, racial equality, and the environment.

On her former role:

“I come to this podium, having served both in the White House and at the State Department as the spokesperson there….[I saw] the power of this podium and the power of truth, and the importance of setting an example of engagement and transparency.

“I have deep respect for the role of a free and independent press in our democracy and for the role, all of you play.”

What are Jen Psaki’s next steps?

Now that Psaki is being replaced by Karine Jean-Pierre, she will move on to host a show on NBC Universal’s streaming platform Peacock.

The former press secretary has prior experience as a political contributor in the private sector.

From 2017 to 2020, Psaki worked for CNN as a political contributor.

According to Axios, Psaki will also serve as a commenter across MSNBC’s various live programming shows on cable.
