Frijns Tops Free Practice One For WRT
WRT’s #31 ORECA topped the times in the first 90 minute Free Practice Session at Spa Francorchamps, Robin Frijns with an early session 2:05.475, just 0.063 clear of the best effort of United Autosports’ Felipe Albuquerque, the #22 Oreca beating Oliver Jarvis in the sister United car and Will Stevens in the #38 Jota Oreca (which sent much of the session in the pits with a throttle sensor issue) as the top four slots in the session fell to LMP2 cars.
First of the Hypercars in the order was the #708 Glickenhaus, Romain Dumas with a 2:06.223, three quarters of a second back from Frijns’ best with the other three top class cars 8th (#7 Toyota), 13th (#8 Toyota) and 14th (#36 Alpine).
GTE Pro saw the factory Porsches one-tow with Kevin Estre in the #92 911 RSR-19 with a 2:14.583, three tenths ahead of the sister #91 (Gianmaria Bruni) car with the two AF Corse Ferraris almost a full second back.
GTE Am was headed by Matteo Cairoli in the #46 Team Project 1 Porsche (2:15.982), ahead of the GTE Pro Corvette with the #33 TF Sport Aston Martin second fastest in the hands of Marco Sorensen (the car later bringing out a full course yellow with Ben Keating requiring assistance out os a gravel trap, and then the second Project 1 Porsche, the inception racing car of Ben Barnicoat.
