Very true and Wetherspoons has at least played a small part in that it's worth crediting them for that role in the proliferation of choice. The Black Country Ales pubs have done similar for Yam Yam land and beyond. While Black Country was always generally better for ale than Brum in the 90's you had to like the overly sickly sweetness of their beers - Holdens, Bathams etc... (again there were exceptional places like the Great Western in Wolves and Wagon & Horses in Halesowen) wheras these new BCA chains of pubs have helped to improve variety in backwater 1970's places like Dudley plus the craft explosion since 2010 has boosted variety there just as much as it has Brum - still not quite bringing the West Mids up to West or South Yorkshire levels though
