Traffic collision with truck driver near San Francisco airport leaves one dead
SAN FRANCISCO — A driver died from his injuries after collision with a box truck driver Friday night on a Highway 101 on-ramp, according to authorities.
California Highway Patrol got a call at 7:27 p.m. about a collision on the 101 northbound North Access Road on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Vu Williams.
The driver of a Honda tried to make a U-turn across two pairs of double lines and collided with the driver of a box truck, who was entering the on-ramp at the same time, according to CHP. The 60-year-old South San Francisco man driving the Honda sustained major injuries and may not have been properly restrained in a seatbelt.
The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and authorities learned Saturday at about 2:48 p.m. that he had died, they said. His identity wasn’t immediately released.
The ramp was closed during the investigation and reopened at 10:28 a.m., CHP said.
