Huddersfield 1 Luton 0 (2-1 agg): Late Rhodes strike sends Terriers into playoff final and one win from Premier League

JORDAN RHODES was already a legend at Huddersfield — but last night he wrote another glorious chapter in his career with the club.

The striker — who scored 73 goals from 108 starts during his first spell at the club — sent the Terriers into the £200million Wembley play-off final with either Nottingham Forest or Sheffield United.

Rhodes rejoined the club during the summer and had the first half of this season plagued by injury.

But last night he scored a brilliant poacher’s goal — getting round the back post to slide home an equally superb free-kick from Sorba Thomas.

The John Smith Stadium erupted. The fans love Rhodes and he loves them.

Luton really should have won last night with the amount of chances they created and failed to put away.

FOREST FEVER

Blades will be aiming to cut down Forest' chances of Premier League promotion

They had a great chance to open the scoring when Robert Snodgrass threaded a defence-splitting ball through to Harry Cornick — but the striker flashed his effort wide.

And then Lee Nicholls had to make a point-blank save from Cornick after Kal Naismith got round the back of the Terriers defence on the left to fizz across a superb pass.

James Bree and Cornick combined, Snodgrass saw a curler from the edge of the box kept out by Nicholls and Amari’i Bell just failed to turn in the rebound.

Huddersfield conjured a chance of their own when Danel Sinani whipped in a peach of a cross from the left but Danny Ward headed over.

Cornick was being allowed too much space on the right and he teed up Bree, whose curler had goal written all over it until Nicholl managed to push it behind.

And then from a corner the ball bounced through a melee of players and literally hit Allan Campbell on the backside before flashing no more than an inch or two wide.

Rhodes’ opener turned out to be the decider and books Huddersfield’s place in the playoff final on May 29.
