How to change your Samsung phone’s notification sound

• To change your Samsung phone's notification sound, go to "Sounds and vibration" in the Settings app.  
• You can import audio by downloading sounds to your phone and using the My Files app to copy them to the Notifications folder. 
• You can create a unique notification for every app on your Samsung phone by customizing Notifications in the app's Info page.

If you get a lot of notifications, your phone probably dings, beeps, or chimes quite a bit. You hear your phone a lot, so it pays to spend a little time customizing the notification sounds to your liking. Not only can you change the overall notification sound, but you can customize the sound each of your apps makes, so alerts from important apps stand out from the noise.  

How to customize your Samsung phone's notification sound

After the millionth time you hear your phone's notification sound, you might be ready for something new. It's easy to change the notification with just a few taps.

1. Start the Settings app.

2. Tap Sounds and vibration.

3. Tap Notification sound.

4. Select the sound you want to assign to general notifications. When you tap a sound, you'll hear it play a preview. When you've made your selection, return to the Home screen.

How to import a custom sound to your Samsung phone

While your Samsung phone offers a few dozen sound options, you don't have to make do with the built-in library. It's easy to use any sound, song clip, or tone that you can find online or transfer from your computer. 

1. Download or copy the sound you want to use to your Samsung phone. 

2. Start the My Files app and open the folder where the sound is located. If you downloaded it from a website, you might need to browse for it, but a good starting place is to look in the Music folder of both the Internal storage and SD card. 

3. When you find the file, tap and hold until it's selected, then at the bottom of the page, tap Copy.

4. Use the Back arrow at the top of the screen to go back to the app's home screen.

5. Tap Internal storage, then tap Notifications.  

6. In the band at the bottom of the screen, tap Copy here. 

This audio will now be available when setting notification sounds in the Settings app. 

How to set a custom sound for each app on your Samsung phone

If the constant barrage of notifications causes you to tune out your phone and you miss important alerts, you can fix that problem, too. It's easy to set a different notification sound for specific apps, so you can easily tell notifications apart just based on how they sound.

If Gmail notifications are more important to you than all the other apps on your phone, for example, set a unique sound for Gmail — or any other apps you want to have their own sound.

1. Find the app you want to create a custom notification sound for on your Samsung's home screen. Tap and hold the app icon until you see the pop-up menu.

2. Tap the i icon in the upper right of the pop-up.

3. Tap Notifications.

4. Tap Notification categories. You should see all the kinds of notifications that the app can alert you about.

5. Tap a category.

6. On the details page, tap Sound.

7. Choose the sound you want to hear when the app makes this notification. 

8. Use the Back arrow at the top of the page to select other notification sounds, or return to the Home screen.
