The cost of living is on everybody’s minds at the moment as inflation continues to soar – with warnings that already spiralling food prices could be set to rise even higher.

The inflation rate shot up to 9% in April 2022 – the highest it’s been since 1982 – with the governor of the Bank Of England warning that the price of groceries could reach ‘apocalyptic’ levels.

With that in mind, supermarkets will want to do what they can to help – and Iceland is among those coming to the aid of its customers, introducing a 10% discount scheme for its over-60 shoppers.

Just how much is the discount – and if you fall into the relevant age group how can you get it?

When is the over-60s discount available at Iceland and how much is it?

The over-60s discount will be available at all branches of Iceland across the UK – as well as The Food Warehouse – from May 24.

Shoppers over the age of 60 will be entitled to a 10 per cent discount in those stores every Tuesday, when they shop in store.

No minimum spend is required.

Iceland managing director Richard Walker said: ‘We have a long history of supporting our over 60s customers, such as when we launched ‘Elderly Hour’ at the height of the pandemic.

‘The cost of living crisis has made support for these customers even more important, which is why I’m proud that we’re finding new ways to support them, including the launch of this discount.’

How can you claim your discount?

You’ll need to show proof of ID when you shop there, in order to claim your discount.

This will need to be something which shows your date of birth – so a driving licence, passport or senior bus or rail card will all be accepted.
