Capital’s Sian Welby breaks down in tears as she reveals how Amanda Holden and Emma Bunton helped her dad ‘cheat’ death
CAPITAL FM DJ Sian Welby has told how stars like Amanda Holden and Emma Bunton helped her dad Ian ‘cheat’ death.
The presenter – often seen promoting ITV’s competitions on This Morning and Loose Women – feared the worst when her cancer-stricken dad, 82, caught Covid.
His health seriously declined after suffering from sepsis and pneumonia in both lungs.
He dropped down to six and a half stone during the seven-week stint in hospital – and there was a chance he’d never come home.
“He was so ill, we all thought he was going to die,” said an emotional Sian, 35.
“He couldn’t even open his mouth to eat, he went down to six and a half stone.

“He went so downhill in such a short amount of time the doctors thought he had advance dementia and would be bedridden. We had to tell them, ‘no! He wasn’t like this at all before!’
“They presumed he was a doddery old man. I had to show them a video of him on a trampoline taken a few months ago to prove how active he used to be!
“He couldn’t speak, couldn’t drink, too ill to have his chemo cancer treatment, so we just honestly thought he was going to die.”
Sian posted on Instagram about giving him a hug for the first time after he fell ill and was bombarded with well wishes from fans.

Now she believes the “power of positivity” from her fans and celebrity pals helped “bring him back to life”.
She continued: “A week after that post of me hugging him, and after 37,000 people liking and commenting on my story, I really believe in the power of positivity.
“He couldn’t believe Emma Bunton and Amanda Holden sent him a message to get well soon!

“He asked me to print all the DMs out so he can look at them when I’m not there!
“He’s home now. Sat on the sofa, talking and eating normally. It’s honestly a miracle.”
