How to Plan the Perfect Honeymoon in Seville, Spain
If getting lost amid Seville’s medieval castles and cathedrals doesn’t put you in a romantic mood, the city’s sensual flamenco music and plentiful tapas should do the trick. The numbers bear this out: Expedia polled 1,500 people in relationships and Spain was one of the top 10 honeymoon destinations respondents named. Roughly half of those polled said they want to visit museums or art galleries and see shows during their trips, while 42% crave a getaway filled with restaurants, bars, and dancing. Hear that Spanish guitar strumming faintly in the distance? That’s your Seville honeymoon calling.
About Seville, Spain
The beating heart of Spain’s Andalusia region, Seville is a city of gastronomy, culture, and more than 2,000 years of history. If flying into Madrid-Barajas Airport, it’s only a two-hour trip by high-speed train. Couples love traipsing under its ancient archways, watching dancers move to percussive guitar, and dining on the waterside as the sun disappears to the west.
Seville has more than enough romance for most honeymooners, but is also ideally situated for getting out of town for a day or two. Nearby cities like Cadíz, Córdoba, and Granada are all within day-trip distance and offer variations on the Andalusian vibes available in Seville.
For most of the year, Seville’s weather is as red-hot as its flamenco culture, with highs in the 80s and 90s and plentiful sunshine. Most of the city’s annual 22 inches of rain falls between November and March, during which time temps can drop to 43-68ºF, depending on the time of day. A blazer or umbrella can be helpful during cooler months; in summer, lightweight clothes are key.

What to see and do
Stroll hand-in-hand through the Royal Alcazar, built by the Moorish Muslims as a castle during the 11th century before eventually serving as a palace for a Christian king. Other romantic Seville architecture includes the Gothic Catedral de Sevilla (the largest church in the world at the time of its construction), the Baroque-revival Plaza de España and Las Setas (“the mushrooms”), an avant-garde wooden structure inaugurated in 2005.
Want to catch a sizzling flamenco performance? Venues like Peña Torres Macarena and Tablao El Arenal allow couples to witness the spectacle of song-and-dance in the flesh, while a visit to Museo de Baile Flamenco focuses on history (though some performances do take place here). While Seville is highly urbanized, couples can get some fresh air strolling along the Guadalquivir River, or picnicking beneath the sturdy palms of Parque de Maria Luisa.
Where to eat
It’s not a trip to Spain without tapas, or appetizer-sized small plates, so head to unfussy El Reconicillo, the city’s oldest such establishment, and wash down homestyle classics like espinacas con garbanzos with full-bodied sangria as locals have been doing since the 1670s. More upscale eateries like Castizo and Eslava, serve up higher-end small plates (think delicate raw egg yolk over a complex truffle cake) in a quieter setting. If it’s dessert you’re after, it’s difficult to match the decadence of Café Doña Carmen, where churros hot from the fryer pair with strong coffee and custard-thick hot chocolate.
Where to stay
Seville is home to literally hundreds of fine hotels and resorts, but several stand head and shoulders above the rest. Hotel Casa del Poeta is an 18-room boutique hotel in the old city built within a restored 17th-century house and featuring a gorgeous central courtyard and an overall 4.9/5 rating from Expedia users.
At Hotel Palacio de Villapanes you’ll be torn between your posh balcony suite and the sun-soaked rooftop, which offers a pool and a bird’s eye view of the nearby Catedral de Sevilla.
Spending a night in Madrid upon touchdown in Spain? Select the URSO Hotel & Spa, a five-star boutique property only 10 minutes by car from Puerta de Atocha station, where your train to Seville will depart.
And with these hotels, you can count on your honeymoon being an unforgettable experience. Each property is part of Expedia’s VIP Access program, meaning they consistently meet tough standards for quality and service—plus Expedia Rewards members can take advantage of free added perks.
