Player development guru Rico Hines joins Raptors coaching staff

0

Not to be outdone by Otto Porter Jr., coach Rico Hines announced today that he will be the newest Toronto Raptor.

Hines, who spent the last three seasons with the Sacramento Kings as their director of player development, made the announcement on Instagram. It’s not totally clear what his role will be with the team, but it’s safe to assume that he will continue working in the player development field.

Hines previously spent time as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors and St. John’s University, but is perhaps best known for what he does in the offseason, including one-on-one training and private runs known for attracting elite players. In his 15-plus years around the game he’s worked with the likes of James Harden, Kevin Durant, and our own Pascal Siakam.

DeMar DeRozan and Fred VanVleet have also made appearances at his runs.

Hines’ announcement got some love from several current Raps, including Siakam, Justin Champagnie, and Precious Achiuwa, as well as from former Raptors assistant and fellow Siakam whisperer Phil Handy.
