Gilardoni and Glenn Van Berlo Take Race 2 Win And Championship Lead

0

It was a weekend of ‘firsts’ in the International GT Open in front of a sizeable crowd at the Hungaroring, after race 1 saw the first race win for the Team GT AMG, race 2 also saw a maiden win, this time for Kevin Gilardoni and Glenn Van Berlo of Oregon Team. The Swiss and the Dutch, after three podium finishes and scoring points in all races, had the perfect day, bringing their Lamborghini Huracan to victory.

The win also saw the pair taking the lead of the standings, 3 points ahead of Nick Moss-Joe Osborne (Optimum McLaren), the pair second again, and 10 over their teammates Leonardo Pulcini-Benja Hites could only finish 13th after contact on the first lap.

Dennis Waszek-Jesse Krohn (Racing Trevor) repeated their Saturday overall podium and won in Pro-Am, with Alex Hrachowina-Martin Konrad (Mann Filter Landgraf Mercedes) further increasing their supremacy in Am.

At the start, Fumanelli, who had started from his second pole beating the track’s GT3 lap record, kept the advantage ahead of Osborne, Mettler, Basz, Van Berlo, Hites, Valente and Korzeniowski, first in Am.

There was soon drama for Hites however, he had to stop on lap 2 with a puncture after contact, while Krohn climbed up to sixth, right behind Van Berlo. Both though would receive a warning for track limits.

Positions remained stable in the leading group with Fumanelli extending his gap to 7 seconds. In the meantime, Ziemian had stopped, there had been contact between Rueda and Korzeniowski, who dropped 3 positions, and contact between Nana and Earle.

The pit window opened and after all changes, Cuhadaroglu led with 7 seconds over Gilardoni and 13 on Müller, Jedlinski, Moss and Waszek, with Varela and Scholze further away. Gilardoni would take the lead on lap 25, ahead of Moss who had passed Jedlinski in an animated phase which will cost a 3-second penalty to the Brit, who would still retain second ahead of Waszek, who passed Jedlinski , with Kranz, Varela and Scholze right behind.

In the closing laps, Osieka passed Hrachowina to take the win in Am but a post-race 20-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane reverted the two top positions in the class.
