Police chase through San Pablo ends with head-on collision, infant and several adults injured

SAN PABLO — A late June police chase through West Contra Costa ended with a head-on collision, multiple injuries, and the arrest of two men, one of whom had a warrant in connection with burglaries in San Francisco, court records show.

It all started around 8:30 p.m. on June 28, when a deputy attempted to pull over a Toyota 4-Runner that had been reported stolen out of Union City. The car fled the attempted traffic stop near Market Street and 23rd Street, and ran a red light at the intersection of Church Lane and San Pablo Avenue, where it collided with a Honda Pilot.

Everyone in both cars were hospitalized with injuries, including an infant in the victims’ car, police said.

The three occupants of the 4-Runner were suspects in a series of car burglaries and thefts in San Francisco, and one of them had a warrant on charges of robbery, grand theft, and commercial burglary, police said. The suspect driver, meanwhile, was charged July 1 with three felonies related to the chase, including recklessly evading police.

The chase lasted about one minute, police said.

Inside the 4-Runner, police discovered seven laptop computers, a Louis Vuitton backpack, a Gucci backpack, and a large amount of U.S. currency and foreign money, police said. The items were booked as part of the theft/burglary investigation.
