Where to put your fan to REALLY cool your room – and the position everyone uses but doesn’t actually work
WITH the temperature showing no signs of cooling down in the near future, millions of people are relying on fans to survive the heat.
But are you using your fans right?
One expert has revealed the optimum position for fans to be in to keep rooms cool and airy.
“Pop them in the corner or on the floor where the air is coolest,” the man said in a video on the Earthtopia TikTok account.
He added that you can also “try placing a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan for extra cold air”.
He also shared two other tips in his video on “three ways to cool your home without air conditioning”.

“Cover your windows – keep the sun out by drawing blinds or curtains,” he explained.
“Blackout curtains will help to cool the room in the morning if you face the sun.”
It was his third tip that caused the most controversy, however.
“Grow more plants,” he said.

“Plants have lots of foliage and big leaves release moisture back into the air.
“If you group plants together they create a mini eco-system to improve the humidity around them.”
“The humidity is killer, you want as little moisture as possible, because it enables you to sweat more efficiently,” one person commented on the video.
While another added: “I’m in the uk humidity is part of the problem.”
But others insisted his tips were effective and useful in the heat.
“This is true I haven’t turned on my AC at all – my plants and curtains have been cooling my place beautifully,” one wrote.
“Plants with lots of soil also act like heat sinks,” someone else commented.
“They’ll absorb a lot of heat and then slowly release it when it’s cool so temp regulates better.”
