The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 12th July) - Leeds concede defeat over Charles de Ketelaere
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 12th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds concede defeat over Charles de Ketelaere
Leeds have conceded defeat, in their pursuit of Club Brugge forward Charles de Ketelaere. The 21 year old Belgium International, has his heart set on a move to Serie A Champions AC Milan, and with negotiations at an advanced stage, Leeds are expected to reignite their attention in PSG wonder-kid Arnaud Kalimuendo. Sources from Italy claim Milan have upped their offer to €30m (£24m) plus Andreas Kristoffer Jungdal (Danish keeper) and Emil Roback (Swede Striker).
Raphinha has his bags packed
Raphinha has his bags packed, and is ready to fly out to Catalonia, after Barcelona finally gave in to Leeds firm stance and met their €75m (£63.4m) asking price. The deal is expected to go through smoothly. The Brazilian ace agreed personal terms several months ago, such was Barcelona's arrogance. The may have got their man, but they have had to pay every penny for him. Once the transfer has been completed, it is expected that Leeds will finalise their Summer transfer business with two more signatures!
Buyback clause could scupper Kalimuendo deal
Leeds face competition from Newcastle Utd in their bid to bring PSG youngster Arnaud Kalimuendo to Elland Road this Summer. The highly talented 20yo striker has been high on Victor Orta's wish list for a while, and now that Milan have all but wrapped up the deal for de Kerelaere, Leeds are keen not to miss out on their back-up choice!
Kalimuendo spent the last two seasons on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Lens, bagging 12 goals in 32 appearances during the 21/22 season alone. Various sources indicate that Leeds made a 17m bid for him last month, £4m shy of their valuation; however, cash may not be the biggest stumbling block. PSG want a buyback clause inserted in the contract. Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi are close friends, though when it comes down to business, friendship tends to take a back seat!
