Mum pays heart-breaking tribute to her boxer son Jamie Lewin, 16, after boy dies after getting into difficulty in quarry
A MUM has paid a heart-breaking tribute to her “one in a million” son after he died getting into difficulty in a quarry at the weekend.
In a touching tribute, Steph Lewin said her 16-year-old son Jamie “had so much to look forward to” before the accident.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Appley Bridge, in Lancashire, and recovered the lad’s body from the water, where he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Mum Steph said: “Jamie was a promising boxer who loved life and had so much to look forward to.
“He was so loved by everyone.
“He touched so many peoples’ lives in such a short time, he really did spread himself far.

“He really was one in a million. I’m so happy I was his mum. He was only 16 and so full of life and so happy.”
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 9.36pm on July 9 to Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge to assist Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service in the search for one person in the water.
“Three fire engines, a boat and the drone team were deployed.
“Tragically the casualty died at the scene. Our thoughts are with their loved ones.”
People took to Facebook to share their condolences over the talented boxer’s death.
“This is just so awful and sad. Deepest sympathy to his family” one person wrote.
Another said: “So sad, heartbreaking for his family and friends.”
