Family ‘find live maggots wriggling out of KFC chicken wing’
A family swear they will ‘never eat KFC again’ after claiming to have found live maggots in their bucket of chicken.
Jay Jones, 24, and her partner Ben Adamson, 27, were enjoying a six-piece Wicked Variety Bucket together in bed on Sunday night when they allegedly made the shocking discovery.
The support worker, from Northampton in the East Midlands, said: ‘Me and my partner were eating and mum was eating it in the other room.
‘She ate one piece and came through to the bedroom where me and Ben were eating.
‘She came in and told us to stop eating it because she’d found maggots in her food.
‘We were gagging on our food. We were in shock. There were five live maggots wriggling.
‘She’d eaten a whole piece of chicken, started the other then found the maggots.
‘My partner had the fillets because he doesn’t like chicken on the bone and he’d eaten all four but I’d just had one piece of chicken.
‘It makes me feel physically sick. I genuinely don’t think I’ll eat another takeaway again.’
KFC said their food is freshly prepared and added staff checked the restaurant over to make sure there were no problems.
After filming their meal they threw the rest in the bin to be sure it didn’t contain maggots, even though they hadn’t seen any more than in the one piece of chicken.
Jay believes as only one piece was affected an old piece of chicken may have somehow got into the bucket, as the frying process would have killed any maggots in freshly cooked meat and they would have been dead.
Jay added: ‘I don’t know how their process works. With the size of the maggots, they must have been there for some time because they were huge.
‘I don’t know if the piece of chicken had been left over and just ended up in our bucket.
‘I’ll never go back again.’
Jay’s mum Catherine Thompson, 54, said: ‘My daughter placed two pieces of chicken on my plate along with some chips. I ate them and went back into the kitchen to get another piece of chicken out of the box.
‘I sat down to eat it and as I pulled a piece of chicken off to put it into my mouth and started to chew it I thought I could see something moving in the chicken left on my plate.
‘When I had a look that’s when I saw the maggots. I spat out the chicken I had in my mouth and I felt physically sick.
‘I will never eat KFC again for as long as I live.’
The fast food chain said in a statement it had not had any other similar complaints. Jay added she has contacted the company’s head office.
‘We must admit we were surprised by this footage,’ the KFC spokesperson added. ‘Our chicken is freshly prepared, cooked at 365 degrees and served soon after so it’d be quite something to survive that.
‘We’ve not had any similar complaints but the restaurant team have done a thorough check just to be sure and everything is in tip top condition.
‘We’d always encourage guests to contact our Care Squad if they have any concerns so we can look into it with the restaurant.’
